I was on the way back from Ostend one day when the French navy put out a VHF call asking shipping to give a 1 mile radius clearance as they were about to explode some ordinance. We were about 1.25 miles. They did a coundown to the bang . I was below & a few seconds later the whole boat felt the shock wave. I was surprised how sharp it was at that range. My crew said he saw nothing above the water.

We had a similar experience coming back from Dieppe, couldn't believe how powerful the shock wave was at 2 miles.
