Major Catastrophe

Having been playing with an underwater video camera, not a domestic camera, but a proper drop over the side and see what is down there jobby, I am tempted to buy a relatively inexpensive (£179) colour one complete with remote control, LED lights and a 7" TFT colour screen.
My fellow operator, Tom of Little Ship fame, and I used it to help check that a blanking plate was properly positioned over a sluice gate and I was surprised at the clear picture it produced, even though it was an old black and white system.
Question is, if I do spend beer tokens on something I clearly have no need of, how quickly will I get bored with it and chuck it the cockpit coal cellar?
I was toying with the idea of setting up a system so I could see the hook and bait on the end of my fishing line and could actually see myself not catching fish.
