We have scraped years of self-eroding anti-fouling off our hull and are left with a nice clean lightly sanded gelcoat surface. The boat is 2001 with no sign of osmosis so I don't intend to epoxy coat

I had intended to prime it with Primocon but the boatyard matey said there was a Hempel water-based product which is ideal for the purpose. I have searched the Hempel catalogue and can't find anything fitting this description.

What product would you use?

Or Blakes underwater prinmer

Blakes is now Hempel, isn't it? We used a Blakes primer before antifouling, after stripping and preventative Blakes SFE200 epoxy, but I don't know which product (if any) in the current Hempel line up it was. Perhaps a call to Hempel?

Hi davidej, If your boat bottom is clean a few coats of epoxy will protect your investment from osmosis in the future. Only problem being it's a bit cold at the moment to get the epoxy to harden. You would have to sheet up and use a blow heater to get the temperature up a bit.

A water based paint will self errode over time. A true epoxy would be my choice and if you use non yachty stuff isn't that expensive. Check out Jotun Penguard HB.
