Anyone any experience of wooden slats or 'mesh' type plastic membranes under matresses with regards reducing condensation? Just about to embark on a busy teaching season and looking to fit the above to keep the yacht dry, comfortable and tip-top.

Had a look at DryMesh which looks ok.

Any comments/recomendations most welcome.

Thanks, Rob

Ventair 15 under cushions, Ventair 10 behind cushions.

An economical flexible ventilation layer to combat the effects of condensation. Use under mattress or behind back rest cushions. Fire retardent to DIN 4102 Class B2 100cm Wide.

By installing Ventair now you can immediately reduce the risk of the expensive and damaging effects caused by damp. Out of season soft furnishings will be much less at risk when left in-situ and during occupation you can avoid the chore of having to move and air damp mattresses, leaving more leisure time to enjoy.

Available from upholstery suppliers etc eg Hawke House. A bit expensive though.

There have been many many threads on this subject, and one option that always comes up as a cost effective and useful solution are Ikea wooden slats cut to fit.

Just did one berth with the Ikea option a couple of months ago to try it out. It is very comfortable and under-berth condensation isn't even a consideration. I'll be doing a couple more.

Just to cut the thread a bit, turn up at your local Ikea in the morning with your wallet in hand.
marvellous.

Installed Ventair (15mm) under cushions at start of last season and very happy with the results. How much depth do you require to accommodate the Ikea slats? Probably wouldn't have been possible for me as I have lee boards folded flat under each cushion.

Thanks for the info. What a difference in price compared to the materials sold for boats.

Now I have to look forward to the joys of a trip to the local Ikea, a place I hate as once you find a parking space and manage to get in the store you can never find a quick way out.

Ventair 15 completely stopped the condensation but I also cut some holes in base to aid air circulation.

Yes, but he's got lee-boards. I can see how that could be a problem depending on their dims.
I've done one berth with the slats and definitely no condensation - not much sleep either I might add - I must get a mattress /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have used Ikea on two boats and installed same on a friend's two boats; cured condensation problems.

P.S. I use "poppers", as used for sprayhoods e.t.c. (don't know technical term) to fix the plastic side straps to the bottom of the berth; then it's just a question of rolling up the slats to gain access to under berth if necessary. The stainless poppers cost more than the slats !!!!!!!!
