ORION Hunter 340 Built 2000 antifoul Hard Racing ( Suspect it is International)
moored in Newport Marina Queensland Australia. I live in England however I spend up to 6 months of the year in Australia visiting my son and family. The boat sits idle for 6 months of the year
As promised some time ago an update on the value of electronic antifouling.
I purchased my Hunter 340 in 2008 November and had the boat out of the water
for a survey it had been antifouled 9 months previousely. Every year I have had a diver clean any residual slime from the hull with literaly only maybe a couple of barnicles removed. during 2011 the marina had a power surge and my antifoul was off for a couple of months on my return to Australia I had the bottom cleaned by the diver. Contacted Ultra in England the surge had taken out the 240 volt 12 volt converter.
Now the warrantee is for three years back then it was only 2 however I spoke to Steve Griffin and without a problem the replacement part was sent out ( service ) within about 6 weeks the hull was clean again however since the boat had not been out of the water for 3 years I thought time to get it out and replace the anode only one on the prop shaft and antifoul again. With hindsight the diver could have repaced it. The hull I have two pictures three years ago and 1 month ago and there is no point in posting them as you would all think it was the same picture taken at the same time.
I sold the boat a week ago and have bought a motor boat as I am now 68 and finding the effort of sailing impossible . However I am about to order a new system for my new (new to me 30 year old) boat however I first have to cure the osmosis in the hull which will take the whole Australian winter I intend to copperbot
the hull and fit the electronic antifoul in October when it will be back in the water.
I will keep you informed of my progress.
Best wishes
Alan
