UK\'s Cheapest Mooring ?

Am I the proud occupier of the UK's cheapest mooring ? My 30 ft sloop swings on an all-tide mooring for £150 (including VAT) per year.

What you mean is the cheapest on the South Coast of England, a very small portion of the UK.

No! £136 pa, 9ft (ish) at LAT. Where? Southwets England.

I lay and maintain it myself, so can put whatever boat I want on it.

I have freinds who pay less than this.......

Mine's on the River Tamar, just an hour, even in my old gaffer, from Plymouth Sound. I emphasise that there's a good deal of diy involved, but I enjoy that aspect anyway, and I sleep easier through the winter knowing exactly the condition of my mooring gear.

Re: Tamar

Unlike the River Mersey there are no treacle mines on the Tamar, but upstream from most of the moorings areas there used to be arsenic mines. They still leach a little into the estuary. Worse, though, is that DML has recently been given permission to release increased amounts tritium radioactive material from the nuclear sub refit facility at the Dockyard. Some of this is bound to find its way upstream on the flood.
Before you throw your hands up in horror please consider that the Dockyard is a major employer in this area and the actual amount of material to be released is still pretty small.

Tamar footprints

This could be a mystery explained. I keep my boat a few miles up the Tamar, next to Neal's in fact, and muddy footprints are hellish to remove. Sometimes they don't come off at all, leaving orange stains. Could it be arsenic or something in the mud from the old mines?

Sorry, but I hate to spoil your party. I have a Westerly Centaur moored in Ravenglass, Cumbria, Quite a beautiful estuary. In fact the area is a SSSI. Good pubs ashore, good food. Cost per annum - ZERO( including VAT). This MUST be the cheapest mooring in the UK.

thats not the cheapest. my mooring in the bristol channel costs nothing, and the beer in the club is subsidised at £1.15 per pint.

whats more, there are moorings available.

why does anyone moor in the solent?

Re: Tamar

You will have to ask Ken Dodd to show you one. It's where they get the treacle to put in the tins of which you speak.

Howard,
I have to hold up my hand and admit defeat. The price of your pint has to be a winner. Like you I always wonder why "sailors" enjoy the traffic jam in the Solent.
The Irish Sea has its drawbacks but at least you have room to breathe and do your own thing.

Never mind the Tamar.......wheres the cheapest place in the North East?.....anywhere between Hartlepool and Blyth

I just moved to Hartlepool and the soansos' put the cost up by 50%. So now its not a lot cheaper than the south coast!
