Has anyone else seen the Voyage Planner on the Clarity Motor Yachts website? I just spent about 3 hours there. It's excellent.

I can't post the URL but if you do a Google you'll find it.

It has details on almost every UK south coast destination I've ever been to, plus there are very comprehensive sections on events and attractions. (The satellite view maps are a good feature)

You construct routes and a day or days itinerary - it tells you how many nautical miles and how long each leg will take.

Seems very accurate to me too.

What a great tool - and its free.

How MUCH......................

*ugger me a Doral 37 will only cost me 745 quid hire for the day at Maidstone.
wot a bargain. What with all the beaches and clear blue water how can I resist.
PS.A launch called "The Swan" will take you from the town centre to the Malta pub for about a Fiver just in case any cheapskates out there are wondering.

I might be having a blonde moment but this looks like a sales blag to me and should be zapped. Couldn't find any proper planning info.....

Goodness, you're a sceptical bunch!

As a fairly new boater I thought it was excellent I could work out where to go and what to do without having to guess. You tell me where else I can find this information?

You all know what you're doing - what about us newbies?

(I also hardly think you can criticise a company for offering such a service to its clients - they do say it is to give ideas for days out)

If they were really interested in offering a free service to enhance boating, they wouldnt use such a narrow number of ports.

Good job you can charter one of their boats at each port listed, otherwise you might be realy stuck!

Thanks BrendanS.

The site you gave seemed a bit confusing though.....

As for an Almanac - when you know where you want to go it's obviously the first point of call, but the sun shines one day and you want to know quickly how many miles it is from 'a' to 'b' - then to 'c' and 'd' and back to 'a', and work out how long it'll take thats about an hours work with an almanac.

I just want to find out what I can fit into a day without spending hours on research.

Its a shame the Clarity planner is not something more substantial.

Anyone know of any other similar sites?

er, no. It's not an hours worjk or anyhting like it. Also, an almanac would be quite useful if you couln't make destination a and had to turn back to destination b . Your website thing wd be no good then, would it?

The distance table in UK alamanacs will have all the info and in more detail.

no, I meant ask here on these forums. We can advise on how to learn how to passage plan accurately, and interesting places to go.

The Frappr link is purely a bit of fun for forumites. Many forum members have 'taglines' with links or messages that are nothing to do with the post they are making - they simply appear at the end of every post they make

Hello Explosion,

What ever happened to charts/dividers/breton
plotter, much more fun,Almanacs necessary of course, all
the mileages are on the charts, going get those dividers
walking Cheers Tony

damm I thought all that was in the past! I just move the cursor on the plotter to possible destinations and it tells me how far. If I choose to head there it then tells me how long.......

the almanac or pilot book then come in usefull for planning resteraunt............

Bergman - an F33 - I spend all week at the office trying to think of places to go at the weekend.

Unfortunately my colleagues would look at me rather strangely if I took an almanac and charts to work and I don't get much chance to look at things at home with 2 adorable children to care for!

A few minutes here and there at the office is the only chance I get and I want to work out where we're going before I get to the boat late on a Friday night (it's the only way I can persuade my good lady and co. to come with me most of the time!)

I agree with you that some comments are a tad harsh and unwelcoming for a newbie, but we are a sceptical and ascebic bunch - but we are not being unfriendly...honest! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you view this as a sales tool for a complete beginner and then set your own course with your own charts, then fine.

The fact that it doesn't do anything for us northerners is of no consequence really, coz the dragons would swallow up those fancy cruise things as they approached St Georges channel anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
