Re: Don\'t believe a word of it!

Suspect the radar might be a JRC1500 (MK1), which a couple of US dealers' sites have been offering at such silly prices I bought one. As other posts suggest, VAT was levied by carrier, and postage was far from free -- in fact it was painful, but overall the deal was a bargain. Incidentally, I've seen the JRC specc'd in US with 10m leads, but mine came with the same 15m lead as official UK imports.

What you have not included

is duty at about 12% and VAT at 17.5%.

You'll find it difficult to gain a major advantage over some of the UK cut-price companies such as MES.

By shopping around you'll be within 5-6% of the USp rices with the added benefit of having consumer rights and an effective warranty.

In fact the UK is the cheapest place to buy marine electronics in Europe.

I've just done the costing on a Lowrance 3300C and the best shipped and tax-paid price I've got is £362.48 compared to a Uk price of £374.18.

It's not really worth the discomfort and difficulty in establishing your rights.

Now if you were making a trip to the States and didn't mind lying to HM Customs & Excise it might be worth it - if you got away with it.

No - it\'s just a troll...

The JRC1500 doesn't match the "Radar 18 inch radome 2.2 kw 24 nm monochrome 6 inch LCD screen" description at all. It's just another troll post.

A troll is...

A "troll" is a term used for a person who makes posts that are solely intended to provoke responses from others, or to cause annoyance or offence. You'll often find that the poster doesn't reply to any questions.

Re: What you have not included

I was looking at the Lowrance LMS-335CDF All of the sites in the states (official lowrance distributers) come in under $700 if you can do a good deal on that let me know.
I would also like to purchace a radar JRC is fine 16nm will do.
The only thing about buying a DSC in England wont someone ask me for licences ect.
I must apologise if I seemed to exagerate the spec but it was from memory and perhaps the wish was father of the thought.

Re: What you have not included

You can buy a VHF without a licence - you just can't use it ..... well - legally anyway ...

You need a Ships licence and a VHF operators licence (unless you only use M, M2 and one or 2 others that I can't remember - but normally used by sailing clubs to co-ordinate their racing fleet so they cross your path the most number of times! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif)
