In summer '76, Thames Water, then managing the river, pumped water from the tideway over Teddington weir into the Teddington & Kingston reach and again up over Molesey weir into that reach. Needless to say, the pumps were sold off years ago.
Meanwhile in the brewing industry, we couldn't produce enough of a new beer called 'lager' to satisfy demand. Prior to that time, 'lager' was marketed mostly at women.
The lock flight from the Lancaster Canal down to Glasson Dock is closed and the sea lock out of Glasson Dock Marina is only opening occasionally when the high tide reaches water height in the basin.
The canal is closed through Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. I was there at the weekend. Other canals in the North are also closing because of lack of water. I can't imagine the Thames going the same way.
