UK - Corfu flights

have just booked a berth in Gouvia marina Corfu and will be heading down there this summer, from the Sof F. Flights to Corfu are looking a bit expensive compared to the cheap BMI baby/ easyjet flights to Nice that we are used to. Anybody down there got any tips/ideas? Who is doing the best deals? Is it cheaper via Athens rather than direct?

Re: UK - Corfu flights

Point of interest, I know a girl who was going towards the east from France and she found it much cheaper to fly into Stanstead and then out to somewhere like Corfu!

It was in February this year and the inbound flight from Somewhere like Limoges was a PENNY and the outbound flight to Corfu was also a PENNY.

Of course there are the Flight Taxes and the wait (6 hours in Stanstead) but nothing that a good book can't sort out. You could read an RYA manual and do your MCA Yachtmasters or Day Skipper or something?

Worth looking into? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

[EDIT] Just had a quick look at EasyJet and all their South of France airports fly into Gatport Airwick and they also do a LGW to Corfu flight too. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: UK - Corfu flights

There are direct flights from LGW to Corfu:

If you carefully pick your date, I am sure you might be pleasantly surprised with the costs. When are you going or when would you like to go?

All you have to do is to get to Gatport Airwick. National Express is your cheapest method and if you are over 60, they do a pensioners rate which is very cheap. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah Gatwick,
That explains why I hadn't come across many options, I was only looking at Liverpool, Birmingham or manchester which are all equidistant from us. Gatwick is the worst airport in the Uk for us to get to from Shropshire, but looks like we may have to consider it. thanks for the info.

Re: UK - Corfu flights

I have also booked a berth in Gouvia marina and am in the process of getting the boat there from south of France. I am looking at flying Ryan air to Brindisi and then using the water air taxi straight to the marina. Sounds interesting.

Re: UK - Corfu flights

That does sound interesting - will look into it.
What is the name of your boat? we'll look out for you on the way! it might be interesting to swap information. Are you doing it in one bash? we intend to take it in stages as we have to return to the UK a few times during the trip. Finding places to leave the boat each time without it costing a fortune will present a few logistics problems but there is always somewhere.

Re: UK - Corfu flights

Sounds like we are doing exactly the same - having to leave the boat and return to the UK. Boat name is Sir Laughalot (it came with the boat). Biggest problem is knowing where you will end up when it's time to come home.

Re: UK - Corfu flights

hi - just got back home and picked up your last reply. How far have you got? we've just left the boat in Ostia, Rome for 3 weeks. damn nuisance getting moorings when you come to fly home - we had got down to the bay of naples but had to turn back to Rome - only place we could find that would take us!
