Jonny Moore is starting his clockwise voyage tomorrow from Holyhead. There is a tracking link on his web site.

Jack Daly is about to do his, starting from Ramsgate on the 21st and sailing anti-clockwise.
Both are 16 years old, Jonny sitting his last GCSE exam today, with Jacks last exam tomorrow.
Hats off to them both for their determination and their ability to prepare for and organise such worthwhile ventures.

I think the Corribees are part of the Macarthur effect. "I shall return" is what she said if I remember rightly as she set off.

They are also inexpensive and do the job, and at 21ft are manageable by the looks of things. Never sailed one.

They do seem like a sturdy seaworthy boat, one of the boats on our trip to Ireland next fri is a Corribee, with a very competant skipper and crew.
Best wishes to them all.

I had one of those - never sailed around the island!

But IMO they are "proper" boats - simply scaled down to 21 foot. and look good with it.

The main downside is not much cat swinging inside. but IMO enuf /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There was a question on the forum earlier this week from someone wanting advise on buying a yacht that will not depreciate. If the current trend continues, started by Day Mellon, then the Corribee will go up in value!

What a wonderful adventure for them both..I wish them the best of luck.

Of course since they are going in opposite directions one mans fair wind will be t'others headwind I suppose . Anyway,I look forward to reading their respective (B)Logs..
As a former Corribee owner myself I think they have made an excellent choice of vessel-possibly the most fun and capable boat I have owned, all in all.

Jonny Moore wants to be the youngest to sail around Britain. It looks like he will achieve that if they both make it as he says he will be 16 in the summer of 2008 and Jack says he is 16 now, but his birthday is Sept 27th, when presumably he will be 17.

As they are going in opposite directions, I wonder if they will hail each other at the passing point, if there is one?

As an aside Jonny and his father would like to know what the boat's name "Casulen" means.

A very long time ago friends of mine took their new Coromandel ( basically a Corribee with a junk rig ) across the Channel, down through the French canals and then sailed it round to Nidri in the Ionian. AFAIR they said it performed very well - but they could have done with a bit more room for all their stuff! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For me the Corribee seemed the perfect boat to choose, she has got traditional lines which means that she sails beautifully and you know what they say 'if it looks right, it'll go right.' The only downside as people have already said is theres not a huge amount of space down below but for singlehanded sailing its not too much of a problem.

Jonny and myself are hoping to meet up around Peterhead but we will probably see each other around lands end as we 'turn the corner' on the way home.

My main aim for the trip is to raise as much money as possible for Rya Sailability, if anyone would like to donate please visit my website; www.sail-the-dream.co.uk and click on sponsor me.

If you see me on my way round please say hello and share some local knowledge. Its going to be great see new places and meet new people.

Fingers crossed for good weather!

Jack

Hi S-T-D /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Had a looksee at yer website yesterday - looks good stuff......but I would have been interested in reading (and seeing) a bit more about how you have prepared the boat / what you have equipped her with.........and afterwards reading about what worked / didn't and what (if anything) you would have done differently.

Appreciate possibly not the entire purpose of the site, but.......

I do kinda miss my Corribee /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Wow!!

I thought I recogised Jonny's boat Casulen 2. On close inspection of the web site I realised that I used to part own her back in the 1990s, and kept her at Balmaha in Loch Lomond while my family were growing up. (She was under another name then). We had many happy days on her and I was sorry to see her go. A great little boat.

I hope he enjoys her as much as I did and that his journey is successful. Good luck to him.

Somebody should tell Jonny Moore that the verification code on his web site prevents anyone trying to send a message to him - it does not accept the right code - I gave in after trying for 5 minutes - I know it is case sensitive.

I've got a Corribee. It must be one of the few that hasn't circumnavigated Britain...

No problem for you when you sell your boat. the rarity value of a Corribee that hasn't actually circumnavigated the British Isles with a single handed toddler as skipper should push the price up considerably. Why its almost unheard of! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
