Good day everyone out there. Would anyone happen to know what the rig tension values for a colvic ufo 31 would be or where i would find such information, I fear my rigging is a bit loose!

I know it is by no means the same boat but there are a lot of similarities. I have a UFO27 and I keep my rig as tight as possible. Which means no slack at all in the fore or backstay. The shrouds I tend to tighten up in a F5 hard on the wind so that the lee shrouds have no slack at all. If you are trying to measure rig tension however I would have no idea at all.

Hello and welcome to the forum another UFO31 owner. Reading your profile I would have thought that this was the sort of question that you could have answered for someone less experienced and new to sailing. The previous replies should put you on the right path, however. If your boat has the standard backstay tensioner, as I think all UFO's do, applying tension to to this to get the forestay as tight as possible means that the masthead gets pulled back which then means that the lee shrouds will appear a little slack when hard on the wind. The important thing is that the mast does not bend sideways when sailing and the rig should be adjusted with this in mind. These boats can also suffer from weather helm if care is not taken to keep the mainsail as flat as possible.
Fair winds,

Ted.

glad there are a few UFO people out there, thanks for your input. I have induced and cured all sorts of behaviour from the rig but still felt the shrouds were a bit loose on occasion, maybe I seek to much accuracy from setting up racing dinghies all the time!
