For reasons beyond my control I had to leave a large area of bare exterior teak without varnish.

A few weeks in the sun bleached it white, a good block sand brought most of it back but in the really inaccessible spots the white shows through. As the whole area has now been varnished I'm left wondering what to do.
/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifCan I apply a teak stain over the varnish.
If this were to ever happen again could I use teak acid on the bare timber.

Lots of earlier posts on this and the usual conclusion is that varnishing teak with anything at all is a waste of time as nothing sticks to it for long and any kind of finish makes it slippery. It's full of natural oil so why not just scrub it clean with water from time to time?

Thanks to all who replied, It's nice to learn from someone elses mistake. The boat in question does not belong to me, if it was upto me I'd oil exterior teak and leave the varnish for the interior.
