I'm thinking of replacing the stainless "U" bolt that is our forestay fitting this winter. It's done 30+ years and although I can't see any cracks I'm wondering if it would be prudent. Anyone know of any good suppliers? The shank is 7/16" (11mm) the stud centres are 2" (51mm) apart and the thread looks like 1/2" UNC. The overall length is 5 1/2" (140mm) of which 2" (50mm) is above the deck.

If you cannot find anyone locally, try my local chandler. MEC - 0118 940 1141.

Bill is the worlds best. Why can all chandlers not be like him.

If he does not have what you need, he will find a suitable alternative or give you a number of someone who can. I have never left his shop without a solution to a boating problem.

Cheers

Wayne

Try Wichard who have a good range but are a bit on the pricey side(but very good) or Baseline. Wichard have a website http://www.wichard.com and Baseline are usually at the LBS.
You might find difficulty in getting an exact metric equivalent to your imperial fitting.
I have used Wichard to replace the lower shroud U bolts on a 1974 Jaguar 27, but I was lucky in that they had a direct replacement.
