Hi,

the U bolt wich connects the chain plates to the boat are all eaten in one side.
is it electrolisis ? corrosion ? what is it ?
if it electrolisis , what about the mast , is it also eaten?
how can current flow trough shrouds if it is connected to the fiberglass body?

Thanks.

Electrolysis requires a permanent electrolyte, e.g seawater. Without having seen exactly what you are discussing, it sounds as though it might be crevice corrosion, indicating that there is a gap or slot in which water can sit for long periods. Seems unlikely that the mast would be affected. The message is that fittings need to be bedded in something that will keep the water out, Sikaflex for example.

[/ QUOTE ] Crevice corrosion as already stated but water was only getting in one side so that corroded.

As already stated make sure they are well sealed to prevent the water ingress.
