Hi Folks,

This is one for the rubber specialists. I can get a cutlass bearing with either a synthetic nitrile or polyurethane rubber lining .Is there any difference in the wear and durability of the two different types of lining. We keep the boat in a relatively silty tidal river

Many thanks

Rob

Don't think it makes much difference. As the bearing surface is actually the film of water any wear of the rubber comes from ilt in the water or misalignment. You might want to consider a composite bearing rather than a cutless if high wear is an issue.
