Type of fuses

These fuseholders are, I believe, one of the weaker features of Eberspachers. It's easy for the fuse to corrode. Well worth opening the holder every few months and cleaning the fuse.

Are there better ones?

Well, technically there's no need for an inline fuse if the heater is supplied from a properly protected source. As for better ones, perhaps an ATC blade fuse device would give a more reliable contact.

+1.
Those shuttle shaped fuses have caused me a lot of grief, both on my eber installation and on certain east german motorbikes.
The fuse holder picture may be better than the ones I've had though. The ones with just a bent bit of brass pressing on the end of the fuse are very poor.

Me too.

Lurking well down my to do list is refurbishing the switch panel on Jissel. Current thoughts are to use blade fuses on the basis that the contact is more positive than any other type of fuse. It seems one can even find circuit breakers that fit into blade fuse boxes, but I've no idea whether they're any good. Since the only time fuses have ever blown on Jissel is due to my own carelessness when fiddling with the wiring, I'll probably stick with fuses and plenty of spares

Useful info, thank you.

One other ? - the correct ampage rating for an in-line fuse for an eber? I know they draw 22+ amps on start-up, what level of fuse protection do you recommend?

The recommended fuse varies by model, see the relevant Eberspacher manual for details. The 12v Airtronic, for example, draws about 8.5A when starting, and a 20A fuse is recommended. The older D3LC draws 20A at 12v when starting, and a 25A fuse is recommended.

I have a D1lc Compact
