C'mon how many out there get the 'new boat' / next boat .... have a couple of weekends away absolutely loving it and then start looking at the adverts / brokers again !!!
I don't know about you ..... but Cars, Houses and Boats all fall into the category of ----- 'I wish .......!'

Ah ha, so it's not just me then?

And then there's the "oh it's a rollover week on the lottery tonight, so if we won the £20 million, what would we buy?" She gets upset when I tell her I could then afford a divorce.

Come to that, what would you buy? And would you then be satified with it, or still be looking at the next one? (Boat I mean, not wife).

You must have got the wrong one in the first place. I've had one of my boats for 18 years, one for three years and I would be quite happy to die with both of them. Having said that I had my last car for 7 years and 255,000 miles, and worse still I've had the same wife for 28 years......................Am I the sad one??????

Still with the same boat, but not the same wife after, 21 years. We sort of tolerate each others foibles. But - whisper it gently- I am looking around. I suppose the length of the partnership is based partly on inertia, lack of extra cash to trade up, and the thought of having to go through the learning process over again. Sounds like a few marriages you know?

Doesn’t look like your going to get anyone to own up Nige!
Me, I've had the wife for 25 years.
My last boat for 17 years - only changed it last year because we had all grown out of it, and I could afford to.
The car - 6 years, and I will probably run that till it runs out of steam!!
Oh! And the house 22 years.

Re: How disloyal!

Your relationship with your boat is like a relationship with a women.

There are of course those in the one-upmanship brigade who, no soon as they have bought a new boat (32' say) suddenly realise that it hasn't increased the size of their private parts as much as they hoped and immediately part-exchange it for a bigger one :-)

Then there is the alternative strategy of just buying new boats before even getting a divorce from the old one - rather like a sailor they keep a boat in each port :-)

Some people can't afford or don't want the hassle of owning their own so they either just use other people's or hire them. The analogy for this I will leave you to imagine.

Perhaps even worse there are people who share the same boat between multiple 'owners'!

True happiness lies in long-term fidelity. A boat is for life, not just for Easter.

P.S. Anyone here old enough to understand the phrase "asbestos underwear"?

NigelB - you are an admans worst nightmare! Has the consumer society passed you by? Tell us the secret of this outstandingly successful record.

In fact I wasn't thinking about Ian ....... I think its a natural thing to want change etc.

Sorry about that one - good boat Ian, I like it .... one day I'll have one !!!!! Then Svete will stop giving me 'gip' about showers etc. !!!!

GOd how do you do it ??????

I WAS married for 20 - changed that
Car changed each year
Boat average changed each 3-4 years ..... by the way guys ... I have been offered a 14.5mtr ocean cruiser-racer for $40,000 .... needs about $10,000 spent to bring her back to top form. Alloy hull etc. Mmmmmmm well I haven't really made up my mind yet !!!!!! The Ridas is still playing in my 'tiny' though !!!!!
House ..... that's HER problem now !!!!!

I haven't actually found an ally hull that has deteriorated enough !

Main thing to watch for is strain where fittings are and also corrosion caused by disimilar metals .... evident frequently by powderous deposit around the fitting.

But again I say that I have checked over ally boats and havent found many with any faults other than the above corrosion and 'cracks where strain has been put on the plating.

As somebody who's on his 5th boat in 20 odd years all I can say is that somebody has got to keep the beleagured boat industry going. Mind you I've had valid reasons for every change of boat - well valid to me anyway. I'd like to announce now that I've every intention of keeping my latest boat for a fair number of years - unless I see something else of course.
