two trips on DrumBeat - squadron 58\'

forums regulars will know of a certain member ( Gludy ) and the squadron that just wouldn't let him go /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

he must have treated Drumbeat marvellously for her to keep coming back to him like this eh.

Anyways, potential buyers queue up now, after Paul actually tried selling her himself rather than err relying on the 'efforts' of a certain Emsowrth based bunch who err may have treated him less than fairly in the past; so Thursday saw Drumbeat's first trip in , goodness, maybe 20 months !!. a quick shake-down for a buyer's trial on Friday.

All went well, some err small items missing ( like umm, both vhf handsets and the blimmin base-unit too -omg! ) and a water-ingressed thruster panel that made berthing more fun than expected.

She ran like a top - comfy 24-25 knots cruise at 2100'ish - lovely stuff.

Friday was the trial proper, with new thruster controls to avoid unexpected drama- all A OK now. Again a splendid sunny trip out of a very crowded Chichester harbour & a blat about here and there. bit of spray up top, so Mrs Buyer-to-be nipped below & was surprised, as was I - at how quiet it is in the saloon at cruising speeds - really a revelation after Ocean Deep, and various smaller planing boats I been out on; ok no prizes compared to a luxury car, but a dandy spot for long passages, no question at all.

All good fun, no crises, buyers & current owner for the second-time ( ha! ) chatting long and err longer after renta-crew me retired to my own slower floating thing.

Nice boats those big squadrons - loved djefab's at a ny eve party last year, and was ace to check one out underway.

saw the trader 42 'washmaster' both days too - hang some washing out front before going to sea & you'd be well-sorted, I say; mebbe a bit much for woollens tho.

Also the Motorcat 29 - which umm ok, not much actual wash, but waa what a mountain of spray she throws up !

Spied another trader 575 parked up, with cracks in , yes, the same place as Gludy's ex-one. - cripes.

Back to 6 knots on my own floating-palace now - hey ho - but if I'm paying for fuel, it'll have to do.

Splendid article, beautifully written, I could have been there. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope it sells, think it will at the price and condition.

I an not trying to start anything but has Paul managed to sell / reject Ocean Deep? I know that rather marvellous Marlow now on the cards.

Always thought Drumbeat looked pretty special.
I thought that he had traded to Emsworth shower (quite apt given 42 eh?), saw tht it had not sold and considered putting in a silly offer.

Yes
I took Drumbeat back as part of the unwinding deal.

She is a good boat and I decided to call in the people from Swansea who looked after her and gave her some TLC - that was all it took - she shines like a new button and is serviced properly - result was that she sold straight away to some very nice people just a week after advertising her - should conclude the deal next week. I am handling the sale myself.

She performed very well and I went right through the boat last night showing all bits not working and working to the new owners - since I traded her in the gene had blown and is not working - |I am having that fixed and the fixed DSC radio has been removed from both stations plus the base unit. I gave her a fresh set of anodes and did all the normal things one should do whether you are selling a boat or not - she repaid that with a great performance out at sea like the classy lady she is. She has gone out at a very realistic price – the new owners should be pleased.

Its amazing how you become used to different standards – I was surprised how low the engine noise on her was.

I feel pleased that I have achieved in one week what others have failed to do in 20 months plus. J However there is still more to achieve before I can put the past behind me.

I have recently been watching the History channel series ‘Escape from Colditz’, so maybe that had some influence on me but there is still a fairly long road yet before I am free from the past. It’s a pity that some do not learn lessons from that pas t- I am not at all pleased with the execution of an agreement, which I feel would take the breath away from many boaters if they could read the documents dealing with its execution. There are good lessons there waiting to be told one day should the same poor execution contine.

We saw Drumbeat on Thursday when we went to Emsworth. She looked very fine.

And...I've never had a chance to say this before but: "Oi, Paul, your mailbox is full!"

hi Paul, do I take it from your last comment re agreement that all is not well with the execution of same? If this is so - dont waste any time with these people - sue for non compliance ( or is it specific performance )
and when judgment is awarded (as it surly will be) put a charge on the company. They will not be able to trade - that will wake them up!!!

Pleased to hear that all's well that ends well. I'm sure the new owners of Drumbeat will be very happy with her.

How long before you get your Marlow?

You might recall that an acquaintance of mine is in the process of buying a new Trader, I hear from a good mutual friend that all is not proceeding as it should and that he's not a happy chappy having already given them a lot of dosh.
