two stroke oil in a fourstroke?

I've got a couple of gallons of 50-1 two stroke mix in the shed, surplus to requirements as I sold the outboard...will it be ok to put it in the fuel tank along with,say,20 gallons of straight fuel? Seems a shame to throw it away.

No worries, probably do the engine good, as long as you do mix it with plenty of straight fuel, or the weaker mixture, could cause some overheating. But only mildly.

I empty any left over outboard (50/1) fuel into the empty car at the end of the season, then dilute it with straight fuel, with a fill up.
Takes away any chance/temptation of using stale fuel later.

In large quantities it would probably not be good but we are talking about 200ml of oil in 10 ltr of fuel. Chuck it in the car when the tank is nearly full and the dilution will become something like 250:1. Once a year this shouldn't cause a problem. My car burns more oil than 200ml of oil a year anyway

You might notice a bit more smoke than usual, and if you spend ages idling the plugs might get a bit of oil on them, but it will soon burn off once you give it some welly

Yes I agree, it'll be fine if well diluted. I've done it often

Probably diluted, be about the same as three shots of redex!!

was going to mention 'upper cylinder lubricant' as i used to know it, back in the 70s in dad's garage

Must have been a Shell garage, coz they had their own, (UCL) didnt sell redex.

Actually was BP at the time-I think Redex was described as 'upper cylinder lubricant'...but was a long time ago!

Redex was/is a UCL, just that tied garages couldnt sell it, so had to sell "UCL" basically redex made by BP/Shell et al.
