G'Day Bryan,

Your roller is disintegrating because the solvents used in the polyurethane, just give the manufacturer a call and they will advise you on the type and brand of roller to use.

Most polyurethane paints take 7 days to cure, and will be easier to sand when fully cured, less clogging, a 150 or 200 grit should remove it and leave a finish ready to prime.

If you decide to roll again, tip off with a good quality soft long bristle brush, tipping off is a two person job, as the brushing must be done within seconds of the rolling, polyurethane skins in a less than a minute in warm conditions.

For the best finish spraying is the go, if you are not confident about doing this yourself, have the job set up so you can get right around the hull without having to move any platforms - planks; pick a starting point, transom or bow and go right round, this will take 10 to 15 minutes, by the time you mix the next batch the first coat will be all but touch dry and ready for the next coat.

The first 2 or 3 coats should be very light, only the last, finish coat needs to be a full coat, this will give a very high gloss finish.

If you are not confident about doing the spray painting yourself get your local panel shop painter to do the spraying, with everything set up he will only be there for an hour or so the cost will not be huge.

I use a number 2 tip, but others have used a 1.8, pressure will vary depending on temperature and how much thinner has been added, less thinner more gloss, more thinners and less gloss.

I've just done the hull of my rib and oldsaltoz's advice has been excellent. We sprayed 2 part paint and its the skill of the sprayer more than enything that gets a good finish.

You need Anza mini felt rollers they do not fall to bits . They are made for two pot . I used alot of Jenny foam rollers before I went for Anza good luck its very difficult to get a finish free from application marks ,its all about thinning the paint, not enough and it goes off too quickly , too much and it runs and to make it even more difficult % thinners required changes with air temperature . I found painting two pack very stressful and am not 100% happy with finish, its shinny but its not gel coat
