The Barmouth harbour master and his assistant have both been missing overnight from their upturned boat. The harbour master is also the cox of the local lifeboat.

Jesus, this is terrible news. I have spent hours in the HB masters office in Barmouth just chatting away with the HM, both really nice and friendly blokes, who just love being around the sea.

I hope they do find them safe and well, there are some serious currents running out of Barmouth, I would not like to get caught up in if in the water.

My thoughts to families and those involved in the search.

Oops...for some reason this post did not come up so I have posted also...Agreed v sad news.

Always had probably the warmest welcome in the area when we visit Barmouth - and the fuel's cheaper than Pwllheli too (though not by much).

Fingers crossed, but after almost 24 hrs with those tides it can't be too hopeful.

The news just became worse

From the BBC....

Police searching for a missing harbourmaster and his assistant have confirmed that a body has been found.

North Wales Police said that the body was found shortly before 1500 BST on Tuesday, at Fairbourne Beach, near Barmouth, in Gwynedd.

just watched the BBC Welsh news on sky here in Scotland. After 15 years service with the RNLI here at Troon my heart goes out to famlies that have lost loved one's. It just goes to show no matter how much experiance you have there is only one mighty master.....the sea.

there was a report today on another forum today stating that a body had been found and it had been identified as Mr Kieth Allday, Barmouth Harbour Master.

A very tragic loss.
Full local council and MAIB investigation underway.

"The sea has no friends, only visitors and will take anyone that is ill prepared"

Deepest condolances to all the families affected.

Regards
