I use 50 or 100lb fishing line 6 inches above the spreaders from shroud to shroud.
Bunting from the backstay around the bow and back to the backstay, outside the spreaders and then forward to the mast at 4 feet above the deck.
Bungee from port to starboard above the winches/cockpit in 3 places (centre cockpit).
If you do not have lazyjacks that protect the boom, run a a line or preferably bunting about 6 inches above the boom from backstay/main halyard/topping lift to the mast.
The idea is to disturb them visually with the bunting and stop them landing on anything stable.
Keeps us clean instead of knee deep in....
Swinging mooring Portsmouth Harbour.
Why are marinas less of a problem? More choice for the birds or too much clutter to fly in?
Hi and thanks for your advice. I'm going to try a few of your ideas.
At this time of the year my main problem is actually only the transom where small gulls roost at night (at other times different spices have different habits). Around the top there's a nice piece of teak which they love!!
I've recently noticed a laid-up boat at SYH has one of those hawk-like kites, as seen in arable fields, flying from its masthead. No idea if it works but it looks nice...
