I think there is a a book called the one pot cook book.. which ofcourse would only use 1 burner..

basics menus for 2 burner are:

Stew / Casserole and rice/potatoes
spagbol
Mega fry up and beans

pudding goes on as main course is consumed.. simple :)

Oh come on!

You can cook ANYTHING given two burners. I always wonder why home cookers need 4 burners (or 5 these days ... must have the wok burner in the middle).

.........but you do need a wok.

What else to do during a long winter evening than invent an interesting meal?

The sainsbury book of one pot cooking by Clare Ferguson.
Casserole cooking by Myra Street.
One tip is to use a pressure cooker to cook the veg and meat first then casserole.
For meals other than one pot meals try a steamer. Cooking various foods at the same time in seperate pans for more traditional style meals.

Enjoy!

regards.

Peter.

We have one ring cooker and manage to feed our selves fairly well but it really depends on the type of sailing you are doing. I would tend to make things like.
Soup,Beans,Eggs cooked various ways and off cousre a big fry up. But then again
when we are away we always eat out at least once a day. A lot of large ocean
racing yachts only have one ring and they seem to survive.

We lived on board between houses for six months using a 2 burner cooker, with grill and oven. After a little while we discovered that a pressure cooker made life easier, for everything except home made soups. The multi steamer mentioned above was also useful. We have managed to feed up to 8 people on occasions!

Modern pressure cookers are simpler and safer than the older type, and use comparatively little gas. The pressure cooker cook book was useful. Condensation can be a problem if hatches are not left open.

Go for any cookbook with 'Student' in the title. Students are generally reckoned to have only 2 rings at best, and a limited ability to cook complicated food too.

Failing that, for a main meal think 'meaty stuff' in one saucepan and 'veg/pasta/ rice' in the other. For instance potatoes take 20 minutes once simmering, then if you want broccoli, sprouts and carrots put them in the same water after 10, 14 and 12 minutes respectively. Bring back to the boil rapidly each time. Works a treat. This way it's easy enough to get meat + 5 veg with just 2 pans.

Regards

Richard.
