Speed bird by hamble river, issued mayday but said they were containing fire and seemed to have things under control, but scg sent calshot lifeboat. Didn't hear any more info thereafter. There is a yacht in mercury called speed bird, hope no lasting damage.

Then another in lymington, boat smoking, crew safely off and Lymington lifeboat towed down river to deeper water where yarmouth lifeboat headed at full speed, but during tow fire proper broke out. Yarmouth seemed on the scene shortly after and doused flames, boat taken back into lymington later on.

Pretty sure no casualties.

Lymington fire was a friend of mine, fortunately all the crew were unharmed. Had a chat with him this morning and it was a pretty traumatic experience. He has had the boat for 30 years and it is extensively damaged. Wooden boat with diesel engines so hopefully repairable.

Indeed very sad, by the sounds of the VHF communications they were rescued by a passing boat who then followed their burning boat out of the river standing by Lymington lifeboat and watched the whole thing, can't think of many things more upsetting.

As Scarron says, a good chum of ours, was at one time a poster hereabouts. He's ok, fed up of course but it could have been very much worse. I've been to see him today and we've been to the boat to collect some things and survey the damage. Its a messy but fairly straightforward repair, not that I'm making light of it. Its a boat with a lot of history so good news that its recoverable.

Another boat fire over here, in middle of the night. GRP mobo in marina, 400 liters of petrol. Familiy of four was onboard, sleeping, but was awakened by neighbour and got out.
The boat one one side caught fire, on other side was damaged by heat but no persons were harmed.

The reason is not clear but is believed to be 'a small electronic device in a handbag - presumably a charger'

Indeed good news everyone OK and boat recoverable.

What was it, I'm assuming fairey

If it's the same one, "Speedbird" is one of the BA club boats.

UPDATE: It was the BA Speedbird. Apparently suffered an engine fire which was handled well by skipper & crew with no injuries and only minimal damage to the boat.

I didn't want to identify the boat, but yes, as above, a Huntsman same as mine. Paul F has owned her for 30 years, he's the second longest Fairey owner as far as we can tell. He's very upset, but she'll be fine, I've offered to tow her home and to let him borrow my tent to cover her for repairs.

Paul is sometimes Floating Preferably on here.

Paul was at one of the Beer and Natters, the poor chap had to sit next to henryf, didn't think he could get much more unlucky than that.

I searched out the thread to give an update and that made me chuckle.

Today 'Here and Now' went out for a sea trail, few silly niggles but essentially all fine.

Wish him well from us when you next see him.

How very rude :)

My rugged good looks and god like physique have long made me the butt of humour amongst more average specimens but it's a cross I bear with dignity - wonderful thing poor eyesight when you're looking in the mirror :)

If it wasn't for the fact I enjoyed our first charter back in the UK yesterday on what ended up being lovely flat water with the sun poking out as we headed back to God's Port I'd be upset.

Glad to see the old girl is back on the mend. Saw MTB 102 out on the water yesterday as we poked our nose into the Hamble to serve afternoon tea following a jaunt up the Beaulieu River. When you've been away for a bit you do appreciate our maritime history & green and pleasant land.

There's something about timeless classic lines. Project 31 brought it home 7,000 miles away in Singapore.

Henry :)

That's good to hear. :encouragement: There's one ashore a few yards from my office - 'Athos' - not much seems to happen, but looks basically in good shape from the outside. I've not been there long enough to know the story, but seems to be a medium term project. Good to see them getting the TLC they deserve.

Swordsman 33 like the one we're discussing on the other thread.

At Dart Haven. Last time I looked at her she was looking pretty poorly.
