twin d4 260 second digital display not working

hi all

just purchased a cruiser yachts 330 express and the digital display on the starboard engine is blank , i swapped the displays around thinking the display was bad but now i get the same problem , has anyone come across this before ?

Hours meter display failing is a known and easily fixed problem, assume the working meter works when connected to the wiring on the faulty meter .?
You can now buy a brand generic tacho with an hours display as opposed to the somewhat expensive genuine VP device.

It's the display that gives you hours , rpm and several other information, I did buy a LCD to replace the one I thought was faulty but it was too small .
I have been offered a brand new old stock VP tacho for £300 but I'd like to make sure it's the tacho for sure .

It is the tacho LCD that's at fault , lights up black then after a few seconds it goes blank .

Seen a clone Tacho that goes up to 4000 rpm around £70.00.

Sometimes it flashes up the digits for a split second before the pixels all go black
