BBC's web news just noticed that some nutter and his 8 yr old son have been rescued twice off mudbanks.
Whilst I support and think RNLI is a terrific organisation this guy is taking the p**s out of them.
It's time there was a way of back charging nutter's. Tag them and put a restraining order on them going anywhere near the coast!!!
Bring back flogging!!

In view of the number if incidents that involve "garage inflatables" I'm surprised that the powers that be have not banned them from sale.

On second thoughts, however, banning would no doubt infringe Joe Public's Human Right to make an absolute prat of himself and put himself in mortal danger.

I also suspect also if anything had gone wrong during the rescue he would have been straight onto Claims Direct for a hefty wodge of compensation.

as I understand it ...... RNLI - similar to Ambulances etc. can charge for services - its a provision that is open to the Station Officer .... but rarely do.

I think they ought to charge the nutters who unnecessarily risk all - such as repeated mud-bank idiots ......

I dont think they should charge. The first time should be a straight rescue with an explanation of the dangers.

If the person does it again and needs rescuing, then they should be rescued but then sterilised so they can't breed any more morons.

Third time they should be left to their own devices.

Agreed - I would make 'em suffer .......

But unfortunately there are toomany do-gooders out there that would bleat - personal freedom to choose - invasion of human rights to be a prat - Court of HUman Rights, action taken to force RNLI and Social Security / Giovt to enshrine in EU law that it is everyones right to risk others lives in saving prats .....

Must be some other useless 20 - 21st century bunch that I've forgotten ??? who likes to create laws to help the stupid ....

Maybe Greenpeace have something to say about Prats and protction of their unused brain cells ?

Its not the first time - nor the last. A couple of years ago the Hayling IRB had to rescue the same windsurfer 4 or 5 times in an afternoon - each time making the same mistake, misjudging the tide and wind condtions

Some people just will not learn...

Hee Hee- agreed- the difference is that Mr Bullimore pretends he knows what he's doing, then destroys really big expensive toys and has rescues costing millions. Most RTW sailors wreck at least one boat which is fair enough- TB makes a habit of it.

I suppose his sponsors must think he is giving them value by the amount of publicity he creates during the rescues! Personnally I reckon he must be in the running for a darwin award if he keeps doing this.

A Plea For Tolerance and Understanding

I was going to suggest that perhaps he was just unlucky, made a simple misjudgement, having a bad day and that we should be less critical.

After all, which of us has never made a spectacular and embarrassing cock-up ?

But having looked at the news story -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/somerset/3584202.stm

It seems HMCG/RNLI were not amused.

I read in the paper yesterday that the Ambulance service will now decide whether or not to respond to 999 calls, so if you dial 999 for a cut finger they may well say "no we're not sending an ambulance for that". Why not apply the same rule to the RNLI, they could have said the second time these wallies got stranded "nope, we warned you once, now it's your fault".......???

Stupid tricks, but in fairness what the BBC article doesn’t say is that on the second incident, according to HTV news, the people were back ashore by their own efforts when the lifeboat was launched.

It won't matter shortly, as the RNLI will be disbanded by the Government when they dispose of the NHS. They are starting to cost too much money in compensation claims.
The latest Government statistics have revealed a trend toward larger compensation awards being made by Juries, which is why they are getting rid of them too.
The latest proposal is that you buy a Day Ticket for 30 quid to cover you for a limited use of any emergency service you feel that you may need on the day, given the activities you are planning. Rich people who have boats can buy a season ticket for 5000 quid, roughly equivalent to your Gin bill.
This will be limited to a 10 mile radius of the machine where you bought your Pay and Display disaster ticket.
So, like Private Wheelclampers, we will have a privatised all in one emergency service, covering Fire, Ambulance, RNLI, Mountain Rescue and Plumbing. So Ron will be in the White Transit waiting for your call on his mobile. The 999 service will be outsourced to an Indian call centre. No doubt someone in Civil Service Central will slip up, and buy the service from the West Indies which will save an extra few quid, and be more customer friendly, if not marginally more inefficient.

The compensation issue will be covered by the miniscule red smudged printing on the back saying no ticket - no claim, and claims will only be considered in the event of death of the purchaser. The Claims Office will be the Metropolitan Police Parking Fine Office, redundant since all cars will be charged a 5000 quid parking permit charge in with the Road tax. Their sole efficiency target will be to lose all claims within 7 days.

Neatly rounded .

Hang on folks. If you eliminate all the fools in the various ways suggested above, what happens to the market for old second hand boats. How will you ever get rid of that old cruiser you were daft enough to buy?

this post is a personal opinion, and you should not base your actions on it.
