After reading the BBC thread,
What kind of TV programmes would you like to see on Boating.?
Being very nosey I would want to see everything !!!!!!

But do you want to see, all the big posh boats that you can not afford, [ mind you I would like to have a nosey at these big girls]

programmes on windsurfing, canoing, dingy sailing, family cruising, racing, power and sail?,
Or a bit of everything?

What would get you hooked?

Re: Ah.....

We know what you'll be watching wednesday night:----

Documentary

Chubby Chasers

11:00pm - 12:05am

ITV1

Looking at a world where men adore big, beautiful women - a place where fat is not just acceptable, it is desirable. The women's lives may have been transformed, but men of all shapes and sizes have discovered that loving their ladies extra large is nothing to be ashamed of.

I'd like to see a boating "Gardeners world" where the nautical equivalent of Geoff Hamilton shows you how to build a sprayhood out of scrap timber, compares antifouling brands and so on. In the spring he or she would remind you of the jobs you should be getting on with this weekend - then show you how to bleed a diesel, climb a mast with jumars or fit a holding tank, etc.. In the summer they'd visit a different UK or local cointinental harbour each week, with a pull-out harbour and pilotage guide in the radio times.
But that would be too prosaic and intellectual for BBC 1 and too proletarian and practical for BBC 2 to show. ITV would only consider it if it could be turned into a Game Show, "I'm a celebrity yachtie, get me ashore" or "Who'll Huey first?". Channel 4 would show "the one hundred worst yachting disasters" and Channel five would have "how to have sex in a quarter berth".

Thats easy, - you want to try it in a hammock /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

they would need to put spy cameras all over the mania,

That could be fun.
What do you think we would catch on it.

One of the "Home and Leisure" channels on cable did a couple of series of programmes like that. Very good but they only appeal to a minority audience

I agree with your idea. Unfortunately the media still thinks anyone who goes out on a boat is financially loaded, and therefore ignores anything maritime except as a news flash......'Ellen MacArthur fails in record bid'... something like that. Misrepresentation of the facts not to spoil another 'Brit fails again' story.
But one can dream.

Men & Motors ran a show this year called "Caravan Sights" for 12 episodes (as well as other treats /forums/images/icons/wink.gif)
Why could we not have the same as there are more boaters than caravanners surely?

Ocean racing - but to do it convincingly would be really expensive (off boat/on boat shots in big seas, close portrayals of what it's really like on the human level. Could it be done? Not sure. I'd like to see it tried though, in many ways, at least single-handed (the mini transat - how audacious is that?), it's arguably the ultimate human challenge. (Nothing is as continuously scary as the ocean can be - a big sea, it just keeps coming at you!)

Is it the content or the presenter?

How many stopped watching F1 when Murray Walker retired?

How many stopped watching Top Gear when JC took a break - I know he does not appeal to many but 5th gear with the other presenters has never really cut it. Top Gear now is a great show due to the passion of the presenters.

Sailing, we get Peter Snow or some other half asleep type. I believe if you found the right passion, someone who speaks their mind you would be ¾ of the way there.

Any nominations?
