I'm sure this subject has been covered before, but can't find the answer. Has anyone managed to find an aerial / freeview box combination that gives a reliable picture in the Solent. We have the normal Glomex UFO type aerial with a Panasonic box and the picture always breaks up, even in good weather.

does the aerial have digital cable, it makes all the difference.
It could be masts that interupt the signal, we have no probs in OV

I have a laptop box that gives freeview Tv. Plugs into the power Glomex TV point

IOW - I switch off the aerial as the transmitter is too close and I get good reception.

In Puerto Solento I get freezing picture on ITV - all others Ok

Status 315 aerial with amplifier in head works well on our tv with freeview decoder built-in. Added "digital" cable, but no difference noticed.(cheap enough though)

Stronger signal from placing aerial higher gave lower quality (tv has strength/quality meter). Worked ok when I held it up, but rubbish on top of a pole in same place.

Finally settled on plastic sucker mounts supplied with status, as at low springs bbc seems to need a slightly different position to the rest (doesn't make sense, 'cos all from same iow transmitter, but that's how it is), so easy to move around.

Ours seems better on a metal surface (easy, with steel boat & stainless table out back).

Now settled on one position, except for low springs/bbc-then another one. always get good freeview picture- analogue ghosty as hell w/o repostioning for each channel.

Phil, think it depends where you are in OV, we cannot get decent signal to digibox unless we use set top aerial and move around for different channels, even digital quality at 9 still falters on occasion. All other Glomex/Status useless even with digi cable etc.

I am using a small portable aerial (£5) with an amp and a freeview box, Get a great picture and sound in St Kats the only draw back is that the boat has to be moored tightly ie as little movement as poss and the aerial has to be turned when cahngeing channels , Other wise perfect !
