Tv on laptop

Have a look at JGTech website; they have a number of options at good prices. I would recommend a "receiver" card (PMCIA or USB) that has the possibility to connect an external antenna.

A trawl through this page will give some pointers.

A good TV signal is essential, normally on a boat an external aerial, the little aerials provided are hopeless.

Mine is unbranded and a similar one on E bay looks to be about £10inc.

NB it doesn't work on my Samsung Lappy as it needs USB2.

Bought A Freeview USB DVB TV tuner from Maplin yesterday for £15 on special offer, stuck it into the laptop (Dell Inspiron 1720 Vista, 2008) loaded up the disc that came with it, installed in 5 mins, scanned for channels which took a few mins then I used the remote that came with it and it received all the Freeview channels!

You can also scan different country's satellites, and we picked up a bit of france and some germany, but depending on the country you are in you can get more, it covers every country.

The antenna that comes with it is crap, even the guy in maplins said it is - you will need to buy something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/One-All-Aerial-SV-9000/dp/B00008RT8B which isnt too expensive.

As far as I can tell that works perfectly, and I'm watching the news on it right now, crystal clear /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

FYI, it's an Azurewave DVB-T 2.0 USB stick - AD-TU200 - special offer from £30 to £15, if you have a maplins near you they should know which one you mean, otherwise it can be ordered via the website:

Not sure how it would work on the boat but as long as the aerial is sufficient it should be fine...?

They do have digital and a quick trawl of sites in France would indicate that it should work, but I haven't tried it. Authoritative response after next half term holiday!

We have picked up French TV channels but I dont remember which ones, I think TV5 Monde was on there which I know do weather forecasts during the day with a rather gorgeous weathergirl /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Of course, I only watch to improve my French /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think it might be her...

What TV are you wanting to watch? I see you're in Portugal - we're in Spain and you can't receive the streamed BBC or ITV content outside the UK. So you'll be stuck with local stuff unless you can hook up to a satellite via a digibox.

I will be in Porto santo for a few weeks .I'll settle for Madeira TV wich is therrible but there films in the evening that'll keep the family happy.
