Well had the boat for a month.

Even got 4 large scratches in the gelcoat "thanks to whoever did that at Shamrock Quay and didn't own up!!!!!" (Yes I am Bitter & Twisted)

Now have a tv (to keep the kids quiet, honest) I need some advice on the best ariel for use on the boat.
Any reccomendations gratefully received.

Don't know about aerials but talking of scratches on the boat, I've a few from unidentified boats; even , I suspect, from the sea cadets.

Would it be an idea to mount a couple of those false security cameras fore and aft?

And then I got to thinking; I've never bished or bashed another boat (famous last words, Kevin!) but if I did, would I own up? I don't know. Would I? Would you?

I probably would own up because I am the sort of person who if I didn't, they would catch me on the security camera. I couldn't stand that knowing look you get when people know you did it!!!

On the "would you own up" bit, Yes I would and have, not from any puritanical reason, just knowing how blooming annoyed I would be if I came back to my boat and found some damage. Have to say injured party very pleasant about whole thing and understanding as he knew "there but for the grace of God" etc.

On the Aerial bit, tried virtually all except the ridiculously expensive SEaTrac type and in truth all useless, except the £4.99 set top jobby like your Nan used to have, from Argos, Maplins or wherever. Paul

If you are in an area with digital TV, get a digi box. There isn't a good TV arial for boats! With digibox you'll get a perfect picture.

Bought sat dish from roadpro for £118.00. Great picture when moored, obviously doesnt work when moving. You would need a digi box and free view card, but the picture is perfect.

Have just installed a Triax UFO Marine aerial on my flybridge Princess and in Torquay produces an excellent freeview picture at all states of the tide - of course a lot does depend on location so suggest going with one that you know works Ok in your locality.

Aerials available from www.cpc.co.uk

Have tried lots of different things to get a good picture (to keep the dog happy, honest). If you are in a freeview area, then you need to get a digibox, which are only about £50 and no monthly charge. Even with this you will have interruptions with a normal discus type Glomex boat aerial, I think its because they are designed to be omni directional. You can actually get a much more reliable picture in most places with a 240V set top aerial with a signal booster, costing about £15.
