Can anyone recommend a marine tv aerial suitable for a free view tv. It will be going on a Quicksilver 905 Weekend
The roof is roughly 3.2m above sea level. Already roof mounted are a Simrad radome, vhf & ais aerials.Hopefully these will not interfere with a tv aerial.

We gave up with TV reception, generally hopeless, at least it is here in West Scotland. However we bought an Amazon fire stick and stream tv via 4g, it’s generally very good and can easily stream from iPlayer and equivalents.

Had considered this but don’t wish to buy a mobile sim specifically for this. I tried using my mobile to tether to Firestick but failed to make it work.

Sometimes you have to retune the tv to re find stations if you have not watched tv for a week or so , but it does the job .You don’t get all of them , but enough inc the important ones say 10-30 stations .

Its mounted low next to a substantial metal winds screen fwiw .

TV s about 6 yr old with built in free view a French one, but I think they all the same so a U.K. one should work with this antenna .

The gps mushroom is on the other side , and the vhf antenna, just out of shot near it .How ever we are usually either in a marina / anchor with the gps + vhf off when the tv is on .Tbh , I have never tried using all 3 simultaneously to see if makes any difference with TV reception.

Previously we had one of those flying sourcer types , it was ok ish , but this cone one is better .
You need quality connections through out .
I DIY fitted it and it was ok ish , so asked my guardian about it and he sent a tech guy , who immediately replaced all the internal Ariel wire / connections with better quality and the pic quality went up a zillion % along with number of stations found .

So if they ( boat tv antennas ) have a bad rep , it’s not the thing itself per se ,it’s the quality of the install .Lesson learnt !
Thats my understanding.

Very interesting, this was one I was considering. I must admit the larger omni directional mushroom type seem to be most prevalent. Although looking for direct experience.

Here is an excellent source of info. No connection.

Aerials for caravans and boats - A.T.V. Poles, Brackets, Clamps & Aerials (aerialsandtv.com)

I have the Glomex pointy one above and it works after a fashion but basically it will only work in a good signal area. We only really use it in the winter and have swapped to a small standard ariel fitted on an old boat hook at the cockpit.
Thanks, just been on their website and they only recommend a traditional DM aerial which cannot be fitted on a boat roof as it is directional and would look ugly. Gosh what an issue.

Further to my earlier post I had/have a Glowmex type on the arch which worked well in York until the Bilsdale mast fire then virtually nothing even when they put up a temp mast. Guy in the boat next to me lent me a "One for All" antenna as per my link. It gave a good reception, picked up 150+ freeview channels so I bought one. Just sits inside near the TV. For some stations you need to turn say 90deg but thats no hassle.
