With the mast down looking to fit a TV aerial, looking to get basic digital/terrestrial TV and not looking at getting satellite.
A couple of questions. Which is the best TV aerial, have heard of Glomex but I have also heard of couple of other as well, cannot remember names, so any suggestions would help? Or am I better at sticking a cheap TV arial out of the hatch.
Was planning to fit at top of mast, is this the best location? With movement of the mast especially at the top, does this effect the picture?

Thanks

Peter

up since April 2006, fairly unobtrusive/not much weight at the masthead.

Good local TV wherever I've been, inc. Digital

I've got a Glomex. Had it for a couple of years with and 8" Digital set. Perfect reception. I used to haul it up to the spreaders, but now I got it permanently mounted above my radar scanner which is on a backstay mount.

Try to keep it away from the VHF antenna as the transmitted power may damage the amplifier in the TV antenna. Don't be confused by digital TV it uses the same signal as the analogue therefor no difference in antennae.

Thhe higher the location the better. If you only want TV at a berth where the boat is always facing one directiojn then a directional antenna as used in houses will be better. (But a bit unwieldy) olewill

Someone really should paint their mast, that is disgraceful..

Though photographs do always make things look worse than they actually are.

Ah William, one day you might actually agree and say something supportive.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Never had a problem with the position of the aerials, have transmitted with amp turned on without problems, it doesn't even interfere with the signal, though I don't recall using the VHF with the TV on, but definitely used it when listening to FM radio 88-108Mhz. It may help, that unlike the Glomex, the UFO uses an external amp located down in the boat, but quite honestly, the power from the VHF antenna is so small I can't imagine it being of any real significance. The stuff I used to work on was in MW, now that might hurt it, prolly melt the trilight too!

I am about to unstep the mast, hence my interest in the nasa tri lights (anyone want to buy a trilight, with 2 spare (proper) lamps?).
