Think I'm going to fetch up in Tuscany around the end of April.
Any advice on any good places about Genoa or La Spezia to

leave boat (10m) for a few weeks until voyage can be resumed. Doesnt need to be scenic - just cheap and reasonably safe.

Is there an eyetie equivalent of the very useful Spanish www.cosasdebarcos.com ? where there are lots of private moorings to rent.

You could post asking about about a place in marina carrare as there is a very helpful person that has his boat there (he lives there!) there for he can ask at the office if theres a space for you for 10 days

He often looks at this forum.

otherwise rappelo but might be full i cant say now? Or i used to leave mine in chiavery its not the most costly and you still get a day or 3 free while you organise yourself then move to a paid berth when you leave

Those 3 are the safest and cost about the same.

If your really stuck san remo will have a place! I left mine there once for a few weeks but its very expensive!! They looked at me then my boat and asked me to pay in advance!!!!

We have just spent the winter in Viareggio which is secure and reasonably priced. We came round from the west at the end of last year. Assonautica de la Spezia is quite exposed and Porto Lotti is very expensive. The other marinas around Portofino looked secure but were all expensive too.

Just to the west of Genova is Savona which is secure and reasonable with very helpful staff. There is also a new and very large marina at Varraze which should be operational by now.

Don't know about Genova as we missed it out.

Hey, thanks guys. very helpful lot you are.

I just looked at all these places on glooglearth.
Geez, 99% mobos in them marinas, is the sailing that crap around there? Ah well were going there for the sights anyhoo.

Genoa itself looks an appalling place! one marina right in the docks and another right next to the main runway, well OK if you only want to leave your boat there, I shall give them all a try. Pilot book has the FAX numbers.

The new marina in Varazze is not yet fully operational, although this may be solved in a few weeks time, and they definitely do have places available.

Problem is, their prices would rival with the Solent area....

I'm currently there with my boat, but will move the hell out of there as soon as I can.

Hi we left our boat in one of the "marinas" in Genoa ( close to the runway) about two years ago. Agree not very scenic but mighty convienent for the airport (walking distance). Quite reasonable prices and secure. I could give u more details in request. Brian

Thanks Brian, I figured that that particular marina was such an awful location that it would have spaces and be reasonably priced! and as you say handy.

I would appreciate any contact details you have.

my up to date Pilot is on the boat in Barcelona, I only have an old one here (so old it practically shows U-boats in La Spezia!)

Could you tell us more about it?perhaps a possition? Nice to have an idea of the price!
Ive never been into Genova by boat!!Always looks intimidating there are lots of boats moored but!!Ive always given it a wide breth

Sounds interesting id like to go in there if i can afford to?? Do they have a transit ??If so how long can you stay??

I've had my 39 footer in Porto Antico in Genoa for the past 3 years. It's right in the town, but surprisingly quiet. Friendly and helpful, English speaking staff. Costs will probably be about Euro 800 per month for short stay, not cheap, but it can be very difficult to find anything on this section of the coast.

Try http://www.pagineazzurre.com for information on marinas in Italy.

Hi I will have to go and look up some of the figures for u, so give me a day or so. We also stayed near La Spezia at Le Grazie but that was out of the water (even for a few weeks). They also have a marina nearby, quite pricy. But if u take this option beware where they put u as some berths are quite exposed. I willl get back to u . Brian

Hi sorry it has taken a while to find some info. We stayed at the marina "Sestri Ponenta" in Genoa. Basically u need to go around the west end of the airport runway, turn to stbd and then right into the corner. We just arrived and asked to stay and were squeezed in. I can't find a bill but it was reasonable 13m around Euro 200 per month. The berth was quite secure. Shops not too far away over the railway footbridge. Bus or train to Genoa itself. Walking distance to airport (Ryanair). Hope this helps.
