Just returned from a sailing charter from the above. What an excellent cruising area this is.
Our itinery was :- Day 1 Etruscan Marina to Porto Azzuro(Elba) for lunch then to Campo di Mar for dinner. Both lovely little towns.
Day 2 Campo di Mar to Bastia(Corsica). Busy ramshackle large town. An excess of dog muck everywhere but loads of character if moored in the Old Port. Beware of boulders along base of quays - very nasty if a swell gets up.
Day 3 Bastia to Macinaggio (Corsica). Good, newish marina in an a small and isolated village.
Day 4 Macinaggio around Cap Corse to St. Florent(Corsica). Superb sight of snowcapped mountains. Delightful small town, good restaurants.
Day 5 St.Florent to Isle of Capraia (Italian). Ex prison colony. Small but modernised harbour in superb setting below very interesting large village.
Day 6 Capraia to Portoferraio(Elban capital). Lovely town worthy of 3 or 4 day stay itself. Great restaurants and beautiful and convenient Old Port.
Day 7 Sightseeing til Lunch then sail back to mainland for Dinner.

We had weather that was freakishly cold but sunny for 5 of the 7 days. Winds E/SE/S force 3 to 7 so normally good sailing. Hospitality in Italian towns was super.
Boat was a Bav. 47 with 5 of us on board. Sailed suprisingly well once the wind got above about 10knts. Also excellent under power.
Company was Kiriacoulis whose staff were fine. Base was new to them and the marina had yet to be finished so facilities a bit sparse. Will be excellent if it is completed to plan over the next 12months or so.

All in all a super area and one which has yet to be discovered by the "Brits". Only 10 british crews have chartered there for the last 2 years. I suspect that this will change.
