If I was to leave the eastern approaches to the solent and navigating using a method of taking every available left turn.

Where would I end up?

If you do leave left the eastern approaches of the solent ( instead of going into Portsmouth, Langstone or Chichester) you might go into Pagham harbour but if you missed that you'd go up the river Arun at Littlehampton.

With mast up you'll end up stuck at the A259 road bridge but lower the mast and you will be able to go right up the river through Arundel to Amberley ( visit the museum while you are there) to Pulborough and beyond until the river becomes too shallow.

One day the Wey and Arun canal my be restored fully and you'll be able to get to the R.Wey and then the Thames. From there the whole country would be open to you via the canals

I think I read somewhere that plans are in place to make this happen.;)

They started when we lived in the area through which it passes in the 1970s. Virtually nothing of it existed then. Part had even been built on IIRC.

I know bits are now navigable but still a way to go before its all restored. One bit apparently opened recently.

There is a website Wey and Arun Canal Trust

it was missing the Arun because of being in a hurry to catch the tidal gate at North Foreland that made me decide that sailing aorund the UK in two years would be way too fast

and the reason why I am planning to re-flim the solent and south coast properly
