After putting a positive spin on the weekends weather and encouraging the family out for a weekends sailing, my daughter (9) was flicking though Yachting World as we turned the heating up last night and pointed out a picture of typical Med sailing... sunny, blue water etc.

'Can we go there?' she asked.

I now feel slightly guilty of subjecting her to an East Coast wet and windy cruise every year!

I am interested in early season, before it gets overrun and stupidly hot. Would also like a decent boat 34-36ft. We are definitely not interested in motoring everywhere to get in first and get a space on the quay.

Thought of Turkey as a few years ago delivered a boat with a mate from Marmaris to Levkas.

Any info gratefully received!

Went to Bay of Fethyie 3-4years ago. Booked through Latesail, flew to Dalaman and picked boat up at Gocek.
All very nice, far more eager to please than, say the Greeks were. But far more importantly lots of sheltered overnight bays with Tavernas (well the Turkish equivalent) and free pontoons if you ate in their restaurant.
Lots of stuff in Heikell but his info dates quite quickly as the Taverna owners are largely illicit and tend to get jailed every few years! Most importantly though, they all seemed very happy to have your business.

Take a look at Yildiz yachting, who operate out of bodrum and Fethiye, and can be booked either direct (yacht only) or via nautilus (yacht and flights). Slightly biased as they manage our yacht for us, but they are an excellent company who will pull out all the stops - we used them for a few years before choosing them to look after our yacht. Whichever company you choose, that part of Turkey is beautiful with very friendly people. It can get very hot in July and August, so may, june and sept are probably best.

Regards

Neil

Take a look at www.perfect-sailing.com based at Marti Marina, Orinhye about 25 mins from Marmaris. They charter privatley owned yachts on behalf of their owners. We keep our own boat in this marina which is in one of the best (and safest) cruising areas in Turkey with lots of sheltered anchorages. Your kids will love lt! We have got to know the proprietors, Kevin and Sarah, who seem to go out of their way for their clients. I understand they will be on the Turkish Toursim stand at the London Boat show so you could do worse than call in for a chat.

I have been on charters out of Gocek and most recently Yalikavak. Gocek area was conspicuous by the number of mosqitos and sandflies when we were there. Last September we chartered form Aura Yachting out of Yalikavak. We were very impressed by them, from briefing and handover, to the return to base. Based on my experience I would recommend you talk to them :)
