Just about to confirm a charter from Orthaniye in June and looking at pilot books. The best bet seems to be the Rod Heikell Turkish Waters and Cyprus Pilot but I see that there is another version," East Aegean: The Greek Dodecanese Islands and the Coast of Turkey from Gulluk to Kedova" which covers a smaller area but is a bit cheaper and still written by Rod Heikell. There is even a new edition. Has anyone compared the two. Is the East Aegean book just an extract from the bigger pilot book? It covers the area we will be sailing.

You'll love it, it's a fabulous cruising area. We especially like Selimiye for the restaurants and shopping. There's a reasonable supermarket there, which is better than the shopping at Orhaniye. We love Sailor's Paradise which is a beautiful inlet with a great restaurant, only accessible by sea, and really good for swimming. Bencik Bay is like a small fiord. This miniature fiord extends about 1.5 miles. There anchorages on both sides of the bay. There aren't any restaurants, but a local guy comes round with fresh bread. Bencik is very well sheltered for winds of all directions. We went to Datca, which has a great barber and you can visit the Turkish Baths, which we really enjoyed!
 
The paperback East Aegean Dodecanese Islands has more historical information, which is useful if you intend to do some visiting of ancient sites and the diagrams of the harbours and bays are larger. If it covers the area you need which I should imagine it does unless you've booked a very long charter, I would buy it in preference to the hardback Turkish Waters Pilot. We have both on the boat, but prefer the paperback if it covers our location. The Turkish Waters Pilot has a lot about formalities, but you should not need that unless you intend to visit Symi (Greece). We also like the Turkish Cruising Companion by Emma Watson (Wiley Nautical) but the harbour diagrams are not so good as Heikell.
