Good chance that my existing boat has got a buyer.
Have been offered another boat, which although not on top of my "most wanted" list, probably represents a good buy with loads of known history going back 20 odd years from two previous owners..
Have been offered the boat, prior to its going onto the open market.
My previous buying technique has been to bid a seller in the nuts and walk away, irrespective of how much righteous indignation this generates,it always eventually produces results.
The problem this time, due to the circumstances,is....I wish to to offer a sensible and reasonable price acceptable to both parties.
This is well out of my experience. :)

So gentlemen, what would a 1984 Fairline 36 with 255hp engines actually make in todays market..The boat is not a pristine marina queen nor a tired example which the owner is desperate to unload.
Suspect we can safely ignore the asking prices for the 20 or so T36 currently still clogging up the brokers internet sites.

Suggestions welcome.

I used to own a Turbo 36 with these TAMD60C engines and we loved it. The boat took us all over the E Channel, sometimes in awful conditions, and was huge inside for its length. I reckon £35k is too low although a T36 with the underpowered TAMD41 200hp engines might go for this money. With TAMD60C engines and assuming its in fair condition, I reckon £45k is nearer the mark. You can't offer too low because then the seller is going to think that he's better off putting it on the market

My guess is that it would take an age to shift and its market value is 50% of what the seller thinks it is worth.

What it's worth to you is probably rather closer to what the seller thinks but I have no idea what that is.

My own thoughts exactly and spot on with the money. :)

There seem to be some very optimistic asking prices on some of these that are for sale at the moment!

I would go in at a bit over £40k, £42k perhaps and see where you go from there. After all they will be saving on brokerage fees, etc. so they can go a bit cheaper then the boats on brokerage.

I love the broker's pictures on this one.
A lesson in how not to present your boat for sale.
Didn't even tidy the cat :D

That has been up for sale for some time.
Have been to see a couple of boats that were very obviously livaboard. The general condition of them without exception was somewhat worse than boats used for pleasure purposes only.Did not even bother to go into the mechanical condition of such boats.
Chap looking at my boat, mentioned that he had been to look over a 34ft ? ft Sealine used as a livaboard in Essex, one of the engines refused to start and neither of outdrives could be raised.

I know you're in unfamiliar territory but if you think he's looking at £45K and you are looking at £40K. It would save both of you time and money to agree on a halfway mark to avoid and embarrassment to your friendly contact but ensure that this would be subject to the usual checks of expensive items.

Bits and pieces will always need attention as it's not a new boat after all. There are bound to be certain things you will want to update to suit your preference over the coming months, should you complete on a deal.

Friendly and realistic is a good way to go. imho.:encouragement:

RR

PS. Nice boat tho and one of the marks that always comes up as a goody.

Nip off to the Med and get one ( Italy white or black money ) for a lot less .
Infact keep it there living so close to the major London airports ,basing it in the med for you will be doddle surley ?
Leave the mud and bird poo and rain behind :o:):)
It's a no brainer Med vs Medway
