We visited before the uprising and we may go back in mid May, just wondered what the current procedures are now for entry and exit from Tunisia, and is a backhander still required!

It depends where you enter. Tabarca had baksheesh in operation but Yasmine was ok. Take cheap whisky if you think you'll need
to oil wheels. The country is safe for foreigners.

I put some info on Jim b site or log onto our blog at http://bluewatersailor6.webs.com/info-2014-cruising-ground , all the info is 2014 , all I will say it was all done in a very friendly way , no problem and although after all the paper work was done and they wanted to take a look inside the yacht as soon as we give them a bottle of whiskey they where gone like a shot ,
Go and enjoy .

As whisky might inflame the more pious, I always use cigarettes for baksheesh - has exactly the same effect and can be a considerable budgetary economy.

You can clear in to the whole of Tunisia at the small customs post on Isle Galite. A carton of Marlborough is welcomed but not essential...neither myself or my crew smoke. Very amiable chaps.

We anchored there on our first night last trip but the guys just said it was ok, we couldn't land and to make entry at Tabarca. Maybe it's changed a bit now?

The thing to remember about baksheesh is that it's a cultural thing not a form of robbery. Don't get all sniffy and terribly British about being asked for a favour as that attitude will just cause you more delays and problems. We bought some very cheap whiskey in the supermarket in Almerimar marina before leaving for Tunisia. It not only bought us entry into the country but several months later a large quantity of Tunisian pottery. A bottle of whiskey in Tunisia used to cost the equivalent of £80 although that may be different as my experience is 4 to 5 years old.

Was summer before last. Very friendly and made large of their ability to clear us in. Wonder if it depends who is there as so many N Africa things do!
