Having arrived in Monastir in July we have now booked looked at Monastir, El Kantaoui and Port Yasmin for winter berthing. The price differences are quite startling considering. Be aware that alot of boats winter here from France and Spain as it is considerably cheaper here than there and there is no VAT liability.
All prices as at todays date and from 1 Oct to 1 Apr for a 13M Yacht:
Monastir - we herd good thing about thi marina from friends but although we found it friendly, it was tired dusty and 3 showers shared between males and females, can be quite noisy till very late but is close to the town and markets. Open to the eastern swell.
355 TD PCM plus 8.550 TD for water and electricity for every day you use it works out at 620TD PCM - PLUS 13% TAX which if you are going to live onboard makes this the most expensive (700 TD PCM) and as they are very popular for the reason that many people leave their boats and dont live onboard they are not open to much negotiation. It has limited berths and yachts are shoehorned in and moved around to make room for other yachts. Beware if you are not going to live onboard as the marina may move it in your absence.
El KAntaoui - we have paid 4610 TD inc TAX for 8 months and they have given us an annual berth for this amount. Water and electricity is included and there if free wifi (quite good) in the marina. A few good restaurants but very touristy. A short taxi ride or bike ride from Sousse and better in our opinion than Monastir as it is cleaner and less noisy at night surprisingly. No chandlerys nearby but alot can be obtained in Sousse.
Port Yasmin Hammamet - Nice marina but surrounded by Karaoke Bars which stay open until 0100 ish, quite noisy and very very touristy with very fwe restaurants giving anything other than pizza etc. a few good bars and restaurants in town and this is where there is more chance of getting work done through Yacht Services run by a British couple who may also have a few berths to sublet. Charges in PY are for 12 to 14m boat are 600TD PCM inc tax at 13% plus water and electricity at a metered rate, we estimated on our usage an extra 100TD PCM for a couple livng onboard so all inclusive of TAX 700TD PCM.
security wise we rated Monastir the lowest as there is a public road down one side that is un monitored and the securtiy guard is always sleeping at night, the pontoons are latched but not locked and easily acessed by the public who do walk down and gawp. El Kantaoui the next best has security who walk round at night, the pontoons are gated but not locked (again gawpers but alot less), and finally Yasmin where the pontoons are gated and locked and there are security gurads around all the time.
Hope this is of help to you.
