Vessels were on station as I arrived for work in Clydebank this morning. The fog is still hanging... the scene was quite spectoral and sobering.
Christmas will never be the same for the families.
Yesterday evening this also caused major disruption at Glasgow airport. At the time the airport was working in low visibility procedures when Prestwicks Navy sea King rescue 177 was tasked to the incident. Once on scene and operating over the river at the end of the runway thus causing the main runway operations to be closed. All departing aircraft were cancelled and arriving aircraft were either held with many eventually electing to divert to Prestwick or Edinburgh. Eventually the fog got too bad and the Sea king was unable to assist any further in the search.
I was out on my boat at about 3pm when the tugs were heading down the Clyde to meet the ship. I had a bit of fun jumping the wakes from the tugs before heading back to Kip, while the VHF monitored comms from the tugs.
