After my previous post about boating on a budget I am now the proud owner of a Pandora International, circa 1974, which is missing the portside Tufnel sheet winch. As the starboard one is in good order I would like to replace the port winch with an original one or similar.
Any one know who manufactured these winches or have one floating about? Next time I go to the boat I will take a picture of the existing one and post on here but from memory its brown, about 5" high and 4" in diameter and takes a flat bar winch handle.
Thanks

There is a Pandora owners assoc'n who may be able to help provided you join!

Barton did make them. But i doubt if you anyone does now. Try a Google search, but note it is Tufnol not Tufnel, or e-bay, or any secondhand places.

Have you put a post on the "Wanted" forum?

Try 'the Barge' at Bursledon. They have all sorts of bits and pieces. The original Aladin's Cave. Sorry I don't have a contact phone number but I bet some Scuttlebutter can oblige.

I too have a Pandora International - a good choice for boating on a budget!

The winches on mine are metal rather than Tufnol. However they are somewhat the worse for wear. I'm keen to replace them at some point, but havent seen any new winches with a pump action handle at the bottom. Unfortunately the guard wire gets in the way of a conventional winch handle... Any ideas?

The barge was certainly open last year. I bought a mooring buoy there. It is tucked off a track opposite Aladdins Cave chandlers.

Barge was there last week - I was there and bought a few bits of junk - at Foulkes boatyard. Did it used to be somewhere else then?

Just come back from the boat and below is a picture of the winch I do have [image][/image]
It has TUPH written on the top and is 85mm in diameter and 95mm high.
