Hi all

I have unfortunately left my boat in the water for last 3 months with no use (due to a home refurb project getting in the way).

Anyway I seem to have bad Tube Worm growth on one of my duoprop propellers - by that I the rearward prop is infested, whereas the forward prop is completely clean!

So this raises 2 interesting (for me) questions:

A. How do I clean off the tube worm and prevent in from re-occurring (at least for a good part of the season)?

B. Why is one prop infested and the other is clean? I’m would expect that the props should be made from the same material and both were painted at the start of the season with Propodrev anti-foul.

The boat was bought 2nd hand - perhaps the rearward prop is a replacement and not the same material??

Any thoughts / guidance on the above gratefully received!!

Not sure what props you have but if stainless they are supposed to be electrically isolated around the hub, if the isolation has failed you might get less growth vs the prop that is still isolated. If this happens the anodes alsogets sacrified much faster.

When dry you can measure this using a simple ohm meter and its good practise to test every year.

Most of us will have tube worm casts on our props after this hot summer. If you can lift your drives, just scrape off with a paint scraper and wire brush. Not much you can do to stop it, but growth unlikely to be so bad this end of the season.

My smart ass answer might be one of two
Maybe one of the props has been refurbed with a different finish more or less attractive to such a thing or...
The bigger rear prop just seems more attractive to such a bugger ?
Who knows, but I know that starbrite’s remover is very good on a non painted/fouled bronze prop.
