i am considering putting two small tube heaters on my boat with a timer switch to come on am and pm for a couple of hours just to keep the boat dry.
my question is do i have to mount them on a piece of wood or are they safe on there brackets on the floor,
how hot do they get?
thanks
my boat does not suffer from excesive damp but sometimes my flotation suit is damp

They probably get hot enough to ignite paper or clothing (or plastic)....mine are mounted on a piece of wood...I don't bother with a thermostat or time switch just leave them all the time.

alright if you got the room mate but the tubes fit in a neat space and are easier to put away for storage

A friend's got a Hardy fishing boat and that came from the factory with a tubular heater and stat in the engine compartment. It's mounted direct on the fibreglass. I've got a similar heater in the garage just to avoid frost. It gets hot but not so hot that it burns to touch. Here's one I Googled as an example.
