Hi all

I am looking to replace my 2ft tube heater that is located in the engine bay and wondered which make was the safest, best ,economc, splashproof etc

Thanks in advance

Mike

2ft is about 80w...they are all good just don't buy it from a boat shop and pay no more that £15 online

Honeywell and Horstmann make them. I guess you would want IP66 though?

Would not have thought so, but you could fit it inside IP66 enclosure if your worried about condensation. Make sure you fit it in a position so the heat from the heater will turn it off, otherwise it could be on until the ambient temperature rises above the set point.

If you rely solely on tube heaters for frost protection be careful because most of them now have a thermal trip inside in case of over heating. The Chinese cr-p contacts for the trip oxidise and then stop them working. This happened to my son in laws,I cut out the thermal trip to stop it happening, althoough I cannot advise you to do the same. The heater was in a steel tube and as long it had circulation for air I couldnt see it being a problem, mines an old Heatrae one and it doesnt have a thermal trip.
