Hi everyone.
I set off on my travels on 7th Jan and am en route Phuket, Langkawi, The Maldives, Oman, Eritrea, Red Sea, Suez, Cyprus, The Med, Gib, Canaries, The Arc and St Lucia. So I have got everything to look forward to but that is not important.

I have witnessed the results of the Tsunami first hand. All I can say is devastating and the dispair and plight of the survivors is unimaginable.

I am currently at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and thisn is the reason I am writing.

Just after the disiater an Irish sailor called Hugo woke in his bunk at 03.00 and thought why was he not doing something to help. Since then, and in collaboration with Global Sikhs, and many of the wonderful liveaborads in the marina here they have shifted 6,750,000 USD of medical supplies and aid into Aceh Province. A total load of in excess of a thousand tonnes.

All this has been achieved by a willing band of inexperienced and amateur volunteers in a little over 4 weeks. Hugo has actually lost his job because of his dedication but will carry on nevertheless.

They seem to have a talent for getting thinghs done and getting them done efficiently. Their admin costs are less than 1.2% compared to the recognized orgs who are running at 20/30% lost to organisation.

These people are dedicated and they need more money if they are going to carry on what they have started.

Sorry Kim to use the forum as a fund raiser but you ought to see what is going on down here. There should be no red tape or rules just action.

thanks for the information.

the big problem here is authentication - laudable as it sounds, it is essential to find a way of giving people confidence that this is a genuine organisation and not an internet scam.

perhaps other forumites can provide advice. it would be a shame for an effective relief effort to founder through distrust.

by the way, how are they getting round the ban on foreigners in aceh which the indonesian government has reportedly imposed?

Have they applied to the Disasters Emergency Committee

I sent them a donation on 28/12

It did'nt come out of my account until 18/1

So considering the way donations increased over early January they must have lots and lots of cash in the bank to give to your friends.

Perhaps if you copy this posting to them.
