Simple question:
Does anyone know where I can get a TS9 to TNC-F cable in the UK?

Background:

Iridium charge £45 for this cable off the shelf. It connects an IridiumGo to a fairly standard passive antenna cable.
£45!!!!!!! :disgust:

Anyway if you google TS9 to TNC-F you seem to get them for $7 from ebay or other component stores. Anyone know of someone in the UK that can do this for £20 or less? Or will i have to be a mug and pay £45?

I shall shortly be going down this road so will follow this with interest.

I don't suppose they're easy enough to solder up, are they?

Just had a quick glance at ebay. Plenty of short leads with a TS9 on the end. Buy one of those, hack off the end you don't want, and solder on a TNC.
All dirt cheap. Worth a try. The Iridium price is crazy.

Unless you are familiar with assembling coaxial connectors, I'd suggest buying something like a ts9 to sma lead and a sma to TNC adaptor.
Watch out for RP sma, which has the pin on the jack not the plug. It's OK if you get both bits RPSMA.
Plenty on ebay or amazon.

Ok that makes sense. I assume all these connectors and adaptions wont affect signal at all?

Just found these guys... Close but no cigar! TS9 Male to FME

Ok I think I have it:

C74-FP-025TS9R/A + CF.4

Total £5.64 + vat
Carriage at £3.90

The C74-FP-025TS9R/A is a 25cm lead with an FME(M) and a Right angled TS9 connector

The CF.4 is a between series adaptor converting the FME to a TNC(F)

I don't understand. Search eBay for this term and you get loads - aren't there any if you then click on "item location - within the UK" on the left hand side?

Isn't this what you seek? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390740795420

Bingo, looks good... Just ordered one. At £3.50 odd I can afford for it not to work. My GO is currently a long way from me so I am relying on that TS9 connector being the right one!

Urrr thats a male SMA connector. Not the same as female TNC.
Well, could you possibly explain the difference, please?

I just searched "TS9 to TNC-F" like you said, and it looks much the same as the one in your pic. The thicker connector looks a bit fatter in your pic, maybe.

You said you could find loads on eBay - could you link to one?

Bugger, just noticed that...... Well that's £3.50 wasted but my own fault....

Does the GO have a male or female TS9 on it, thought the unit had the female....I can't look at mine right now, it's a long way away...

It might look the same but TNC is not SMA. Search Ebay:

The go has a female TS9 so the cable is a male TS9. You just need to replicate the official go connector. As said you can do it for £12 from Co Star or order from the states.

You can see the ANT port on my Inmarsat and the black plug which leads to the antenna which the Go wants to plus into. The black is male even though it has out threads and the ANT connection on the terminal is female. I.e. want you want on the end of you TS9 to TNS-F adapter cable.

Ebay.com links don't allow you to filter by location.

Here's the same link at eBay.co.uk: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...XTS9+to+TNC-F.TRS0&_nkw=TS9+to+TNC-F&_sacat=0

On the left is an "item location" filter and you can choose "UK only".

If I click that, I get these results: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=TS9 to TNC-F&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1

I'll let you figure out if any of those help you, because I'm still confused.

I'm still confused.

Every one of those is ts9 to SMA. SMA is not what you want. You want TNC. It is different. TS9 to SMA is common as pie.

If you can send me a direct link to a TS9 to TNC-Female that is located in the UK I will give you a prize.

What's your problem with a TNC to SMA adaptor?
SMA is good for higher frequencies than TNC. off the top of my head I don't recall what frequency Iridium is working at TBH.
TNC is a bit of an 'other connectors from days of yore' throwback these days.

Nothing at all and that's what I'm gonna do as per your suggestion but Strolls kept posting links to things he was suggesting was a TNC. Anyway it matters not as the solution is sorted now.

It seems though that all Iridium antennas come with cables with TNC and my Thrane & Thrane Antenna is also TNC.
