Sadler 34. I have a trysail of about 7 sq m with a 4.2m luff. A new FB main has required me to fit a screw-on mast gate which now makes it impracticable to hoist the trysail in the main track - so I need an alternative track.
I have heard a suggestion that it would be possible to rig a 5m length of 4mm or 5mm SS wire tensioned by a small turnbuckle between a couple of deck plates attached to the mast beside the main track. The trysail would then be hoisted on hanks attached to this stay.
This seems attractively simple and much fewer holes in the mast than would be needed for a second track. Any opinions?
