Before I stick on the main for sale forum does anybody local want a Trysail?

Crusader Trysail - made for a Moody 31
Doesn't look like it's ever been used - I now have a fixed mast gate so can't use it.

Heavy Dacron
Foot 8'
Luff 18'
Leech 21'
With sliders and sheets

£150

Still haven't had any use out of it. Biggest wind we were in last year was only 36 knots. Still on 3rd reef at that point.

As so many people I've got a storm jib, never used by me, the previous owners, the ones before that, an it lives in the locker under the bunks in the bow (somewhere). I'd hate to have to try to find it and get it out in the kind of conditions when I would actually need to use it! Not sure I can really call that being prepared.

I get the storm jib out every year, hoist it, use it, and put it away. Never had it up in anything like daft weather though.

Once get boat afloat and on mooring I will rig storm jib on the inner forestay and trysail so I know how they need to be rigged / sheeted, where the main boom needs to be stowed etc. I may even try having a little sail about with them.

They will then be folded back into their bags and put in their own locker - so they are accessible just in case.

Worth knowing how to use them as well as where they are- they may just pay you back one day.

I have exactly the same plan with the storm jib and trysail that came with Erbas!

Before you pack them away, make sure all the piston hanks and any shackles are well lubricated with Lanocote. Make sure the corners are labelled 'Head, Tack and Clew' in big indelible letters. And ideally make sure they have their own dedicated sheets already bent on.

Those things would help prevent most of the cock-ups I've seen when people dig out their storm sails.

Smug. Mine is all those things. Even the Strop and halyard lead are assembled to the tack, ready to lead over the coachroof to the winch.
